I was reflecting on the message by Doug Metzger Sunday night--thinking about God's love and forgiveness. It is difficult to realize how much God loves us and how truly forgiven and made clean we are. We don't need to remember our past failings--our past should not hold us back.

Hebrews 10:1-18, says that the sacrifices offered and the laws given were just a shadow of things to come. The sacrifices had to be offered every year and reminded the person of their previous sins. That was because the sacrifice of animals could not take away sin.

However when Jesus died for our sins. his offering was once for all. God has now made us new if we trust in Him. His law is written in our hearts--no longer external but internal. Our sins and iniquities are no longer remembered by God. Our sins are completely done away with and the offering is finished.

If God has forgotten our sin, when we feel guilty for sins we have taken to God, that guilt is not coming from God. It is coming from Satan who certainly wants to hold us back and keep us from serving God with our whole heart. If God has forgotten our sin "as far as the east is from the west" what right do we have to wallow in guilt from past transgressions?
